Position Title: Computer Network and Web Technician
Status: Regular Full-time
Hours: 35 hours/week (70 hours bi-weekly)
Salary: $31.201/hr - $36.706/hr

Job Summary:

The Help Desk and Network Specialist develops and implements all server applications on Clinic’s network.
The Help Desk and Network Specialist supports diagnosing and troubleshooting of end user desktop application issues and offers appropriate solutions.
Assembling of desktop computers, printer repair, router/extender installation with configuration and activation.
The employee provides technical assistance and support to staff on a variety of IT issues.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

• Assists staff in using the computer system by addressing computer and equipment problems as they arise via Help Desk, Logs, monitors, investigate and resolve issues.
• Participates in formal user requirements processes and ensures that implemented solutions meet identified user requirements, including medical software.
• Deploys and maintains computer workstations and related equipment as needed.
• Support implementation of workstation software updates and upgrades rollouts.
• Verifies user/workstation data backup and restore.
• Maintains end user CISCO phones' list, messages, assigns extensions, and keeps list up to date.

Organizational Support

• Oversee Clinic’s hardware network servers, software, operating system, terminal services and program specific software, including medical software.
• Manage the upkeep of the Clinic’s computer hardware, Clinic’s email and Website.
• Provides backup of Clinic’s email account creation, administration and issuing user ID's, user profiles and security passwords.
• Assists with ensuring staff access to applications.

Risk Management

• Ensures server backups, scheduling and
troubleshooting.
• Ensures adequate power supply and UPS support to servers.
• Manages SPAM, GFI (auto-rollout) and virus scanner software Clinic-wide.
• Coordinates the Clinic’s data archiving procedures.

Administration

• Upholds and maintains up-to-date hardware and software inventory and helps monitoring system component performance and usage.
• Helps to evaluate and maintain end-user software licensing requirements.
• Assists preparation of local guidelines, procedures, reports, and documents.
• Document and codify IT procedures and planning.
• Other than primary location--Take responsibility to setup completely new infrastructure of Computer Network along with other peripherals on to upcoming new Clinic (second location) in Ontario outside GTA.
• Implement ethernet cabling (cat 6/7 RJ45) concealed wiring.
•  In-depth knowledge and understanding of network cabling installation. Familiar with using Strong ability in measurement cutting and splicing cable, Cutters, Scissors, Pliers, Cable Tie Tools, Compression and Crimp Tools, Fiber Optic Tools, Insertion - Extraction Tools, Manual/Automatic Switch Boxes, Network Testers, Punchdown Tools, Strippers.
• Participates in development and implementation of system-wide solutions to technical issues, which could include updated/new training and software requirements.
• Co-ordinates implementation of system changes & enhancements, and networking issues including new training and software improvements, in consultation with technical support resources.
• Provides leadership in the development of plans to ensure systems meet Clinic’s future needs.

Teamwork and Collaboration

• Participates on committees and working groups as required.
• Participates in rotation as needed to provide extended hours technical support to staff.

• Contributing to the Clinic’s activities to collect, analyse and report on data and relevant information, and participate in research.
• Promoting awareness of and participation in Clinic’s activities.
• Contributing to the Clinic’s work by participating in meetings and committees.
• Working during both regular and extended hours of operation in locations identified by the Clinic.
• Contributing to the Clinic’s practices of training to staff.
• Contributing to the Clinic’s efforts to secure andmaximize resources for current and new programs, services and activities.
• Participating in the Clinic’s efforts to enhance its capacity through staff development.
• Working in a manner that supports the Clinic’s Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor Degree in Computer or computer science
• Able to assist as veterinary assistant an asset.
• Computer Hardware and repairing course.
• Proficiency in typing and word processing, experience
  with data entry also desirable.
• CISCO training is considered an asset.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
